.: We can Fix it!

Involves repairing damaged teeth (decay, chipped/cracked or broken) to alleviate pain and restore function. How the tooth is repaired will depend on the degree of damage. It may require the use of a filling material to replace the part of the tooth that is decayed or broken or if there is more significant damage it may require a crown (cap) or a fixed bridge.

A crown is a covering designed to fit over the entire tooth structure to restore it to its original shape and size. A crown protects and strengthens tooth structure when it cannot be restored with a filling. Crowns can also improve the appearance and function of natural teeth that are malformed, mal positioned or permanently discoloured. They are made of porcelain and are colour-matched to blend in with your natural teeth. They are highly durable and designed to last many years but like most dental restorations they do require care on your part. The underlying natural tooth can still develop decay and like natural teeth crowns can harbour plaque and tartar. With regular brushing, flossing and dental visits your crown can last a very long time.

Crowns normally require two appointments. The first appointment is the longer of the two and involves shaping the natural tooth and taking impressions to fabricate your custom crown. You will also be fitted with a temporary crown at the same time. The second visit is much shorter and it involves placing your new custom crown so that the fit and bite are just right.

A fixed bridge is an appliance that is non-removable, it is cemented into place. It is an excellent way to replace missing teeth for those individuals who cannot wear or do not want dentures. The procedure for a fixed bridge is similar to that of a crown except that instead of preparing one tooth for a crown, the two teeth on either side of the space are prepared. The lab will design the false tooth/teeth which will be attached to the two crowns and it is cemented in place as one solid piece. As with a single tooth crown, proper care of your bridge is very important. There are special cleaning aids designed to make caring for your bridge as easy and effective as possible. Our team will show you how to use these aids and supply you with samples after placement of your bridge and at your regular hygiene appointments.

Fixed bridges are highly durable and can last for many years but inadequate hygiene and normal wear and tear may result in the need for re-cementation or replacement down the road.
